Salesforce Integration Guide [LEGACY]

As of April 1, 2024 this guide has been replaced by the General OAuth Integration Guide.

How it works

Once Salesforce is integrated with Magnify, the data ingestion process will begin. After a short period of time selected Salesforce objects will be available within Magnify, providing you the ability to create targeted customer segments for journey creation throughout the customer lifecycle.

The integration is bilateral, so Magnify can also send information and perform actions in Salesforce.

Requirements

  • Identify which fields map to the universal and unique account and user identifiers (in Salesforce this is typically Account ID and Contact ID)
  • Identify any custom objects that should be ingested
  • Access to account owners email in the event identity verification is required during setup
  • Salesforce account with the appropriate permissions
Magnify recommends that you establish a new user account specifically for integration use in order to allow for audit tracking upon changes or modifications to your systems and data (e.g. magnify-sfdc@example.com).

Required Permissions

Salesforce Object Permissions
1 Account Read, Edit
2 Contact Read
3 User Read
4 Contract Read
5 Opportunity Read, Create, Edit
6 Case Read, Create
7 Campaign Read
8 Lead Read
9 Task Read, Create
10 Custom Objects (as needed) Read

Please validate that the Salesforce account you are integrating with Magnify has the proper field-level security settings enabled. Any fields that are hidden to the user account will not be ingested by Magnify, therefore not usable within the platform.

Integration Walkthrough

  1. Login to your Magnify instance and navigate to the Integrations menu.

  1. On the integrations dashboard, locate Gainsight and click Connect to begin the setup process.

  1. Name your authentication and specify the Salesforce instance type that you will be connecting to, either Sandbox or Production, and click Create.

  1. Upon clicking Create, an external pop-up window will appear and you will be prompted to log in to Salesforce. Enter the username and password associated with the Salesforce account you will be using to integrate with Magnify. After entering your credentials and have successfully logged in, you should be taken back to Magnify to resume the integration setup.

You may see your saved username automatically populated when the Salesforce authentication pop-up first appears. If so, select Log In with a DIfferent Username. The following screen will then allow you to enter the credentials for the account you will be integrating with Magnify.

Before proceeding, validate that the URL on the authentication pop-up matches the URL for the Salesforce domain you are connecting to Magnify. If it does not match, select Use Custom Domain and input just the domain of your Salesforce instance: https://domain.my.salesforce.com and click Continue. Now, input username and password for the account that you will be using to integrate with Magnify and select Log In to Salesforce.

At this point you may be prompted to verify your identity. If so, enter the verification code sent by Salesforce and click Verify.

Once verified, Salesforce will ask if you would like to allow access for the user account you’ve logged in with. Confirm that the username listed matches the username you intend to integrate with Magnify. If it does not match, select Not you? and follow the steps above to log in to the intended account. If the username is correct, select Allow.
  1. Now that we’ve connected our Salesforce account to Magnify, we must specify the fields that map to unique Account and User IDs. This is the field that is used within your organization to uniquely and universally identify an account and/or user. To do this, click the drop down menu to select the appropriate field.

If you have custom objects that you would like to bring into Magnify, you can connect them now using the “Add Object to Sync” button. However in this example, we will not be linking any custom objects. Now that we’ve identified the fields for Account and User IDs, we will click Finish.

  1. If done correctly, you should see a message appear in the lower left portion of your screen stating that your integration has been successfully established.

We can verify this by navigating back to our integration menu in the navigation pane on the left hand side of the screen. Here we can see that we have successfully connected Salesforce to our Magnify instance.
